Interactive VP Debate Viewer

Laurie and I were talking the other day about how it would be cool to be able to watch the debate with some kind of fact-checking information on the screen along with the debate.

Well, the NY Times has put together a pretty cool page which includes video along with a transcript synched to the video, indexed by speaker and subject, along with a "check point" tab which includes some analysis of the factual information in each segment.

Speaking of which...

THIS DEBATE "FACT CHECK" from ABC News notes that Sarah Palin fluffed the name of a general in Afghanistan but -- as I predicted last night -- ignores Joe Biden's multiple Constitutional mistakes. Putting the President in Article I, and claiming that the VP only presides over the Senate in case of a tie would seem to be at least as significant, especially given that Biden has been in the Senate since before I hit puberty, and is, you know, running for Vice President. Perhaps he should study up on what the job involves -- remember, the rap on Sarah Palin was that she didn't know. And perhaps the press should try reporting on what he says more . . . .

From Instapundit

As much as I dislike Palin, I definitely agree with this. The media has been having such a field day with all of her mistakes, that it's been neglecting Biden.

Several of the networks provided "fact checks" after the debate. They pointed out several of Biden's "mistakes" (lies) but none of the ones Laurie points out. Their agenda is clear and the weak attempts at fairness are nothing more than window dressing.

What about Sarah Palin scares liberals so much? Are they afraid that she might get elected and screw things up? Wait a minute, Biden, Obama, McCain, Bush, Clinton (both of them), Barney Frank and Chris Dodd are all culpable in this mess we are in now. Giving that bunch of goobers $850 billion to fix the financial system defies logic. So what if she reminds you of your mother or some iteration thereof.

Seems like every election cycle the media push the limits of credibility well past the previous election. I think the McCain campaign should demand equal time for most of the news broadcasts, especially on MSNBC, CNN, CBS, ABC & NBC. The Dems can demand it for Fox.

Laurie, you might want to check your info before railing on Biden about Constitutional knowledge.... Article 1, Section 3 is where the Vice President's duties in the Legislature are defined. That's exactly what Biden said.... Article 1... only power is breaking ties... he got it exactly right.

She's an ignorant theocrat. THAT is what scares us. She's a puppet who was only chosen because she would fire up the deeply religious Republican base. She's not a worthy choice for VP. She wants to enact her religious beliefs into public policy. THAT is what scares us. She thinks Roe v Wade should be overturned. She thinks that God provides her political funding and success. She thinks the plan for the war in Iraq is God's plan. THAT is what scares us. She's an ignorant theocrat.

What a fucking joke! All of these news networks have been BEGGING for time with Sarah Palin and for more than a week after her introduction she wouldn't talk to any of them. She's currently under another media gag order, refusing to go on any of the Sunday talk shows after the debate. She has no more interviews scheduled in the upcoming week.

Don't give me this crap about how the media is being so unfair to McCain. It's such crap. If anything, the media has been TOO SOFT. They ask questions of politicians and of spokespeople and get back ridiculous talking point responses, but instead of smacking them with a follow-up question, the pundit just lets the bullshit hang in the air.

That is what makes the Couric interviews so amazing. She actually challenges Palin when Palin says something ridiculous.

Ok, first of all, I myself never railed on Biden, as you can clearly see if you actually read my comment. I have a lot of respect for him, and I'm simply pointing out that the media is not being fair.

Second...he got it exactly right? I don't think so.

This from the Washington Post.

Excuse me, it's from The Washington Times, not Post.
Wouldn't want to get any grief from anyone about that. =^)

Laurie, I apologize. I read too quickly and was overly gruff, totally my bad.

I still think Biden got it right on though, he said the VP presides over the Senate and that the only legislative authority the VP has is to break ties. I don't see how those things are wrong.

Kenny, I really don't think she is ignorant or a theocrat. Next thing you are going to tell me is that the Pentacostal Church is a cult!

About overturning Roe v. Wade, there are many sane individuals that have a problem with abortion. And most of them tie it to a belief that life begins at conception. Because we believe differently than you doesn't make us ignorant or wrong. Just different.

Just calm down, drink a little more of that liberal kool-aid and things will be alright.

Yes, she is both ignorant on many important topics for anyone who is going to lead a country and yes, she is a theocrat. She says she will enact her religious beliefs in public policy. That IS theocracy. She IS a theocrat.

My statement of her ignorance is on other topics. Her stance on Roe v Wade is one of the things that makes her a theocrat.

Yes, you have a BELIEF that life begins at conception. That's your belief. Your religious belief, to be specific. Your religious belief does not belong in public policy because it is not MY religious belief.

You get to choose your religion, I get to choose mine. The aspect of pro-life stance that removes my option to choose my own religious beliefs and choose what is best for me is where you cross the line from freedom into theocracy.

You can be pro-life all day long, but you cannot force me to be pro-life. That's the point. Your religious belief is not mine and you cannot enforce it upon me.

As I say these things, keep this in mind. I don't think I would ever want my girlfriend or wife to have an abortion. That's the choice that would be right for me. I would never be so arrogant to choose for every single family in the United States and tell them they have to have an unwanted baby. That is their choice.

Palin doesn't even support abortion in cases of rape and incest. She demands that the media respect her daughter's decision, but she doesn't think any other family should be able to make that decision for themselves. She wants to make it for them.
